Continued line fault with recent RIM
upgrade since last update. ADSL service online today after Telstra
rectified fault after 8 days.

Telstra
finally
confirmed that the rollout & data allocation had been completed as of
today.

For customer service, proven reliability &
'bang-for-buck', Webspun recommends the following service providers:
Westnet,
iinet
& Internode.
19th
October, 2005 Checked that upgrade
is still on schedule for proposed date. Telstra confirmed still on
course for last week of October.
Informational & final letter sent out to Island
Views residents.
Next page update will be once completion is
confirmed.
29th
September, 2005
The upgrade date has now been set. I'm told that the date of
completion will be October 31st. Apparently, this means it is scheduled
to be finished by that date. Usually the week before, although if
there's some kind of unforeseen circumstance (ie, large number of
breakdowns, etc in leadup) it can be a week or so later than set date.
3rd July, 2005
Contacted regional manager in regards to status of application. It has
now been approved to be upgraded in Telstra's financial budget for this
year! All we're waiting on is a set date now, but I'm informed that it's
generally within 3-6 months of successful application.
15th
April, 2005
Petition 2 results: Success!! From nearly 65 homes (some
still empty), we now have 37 addresses with expressions of interest. I
have lodged the petition to Telstra's Technical Manager for submission
to upgrade.
12th March, 2005 Another
letter has been sent around the estate to clock up the extra figures
required for the upgrade. With 17 more addresses required for Telstra to
even look at an upgrade, an 'every number counts' type petition has been
letter-box dropped. Hoping for good result this time, or a door-knocking
appeal will be in order!
6th January, 2005
Petition results: Received 18 individual responses all up. Quite a
disappointing result out of about 50 homes. Although, understandably in
a new estate, several of these homes will still be uninhabited, or not
fully complete as yet. Contacted Telstra for any news, who advised that
the upgrade figure is now 35! Will send out another petition as more
houses are developed.
6th
December, 2004 A petition has
today been sent out to the residents of Island Views Estate to rally up
enough numbers to get our RIM / Sub-exchange upgraded to allow for the
option of ADSL. The rest of Palm Cove has the capability of broadband,
but not our estate, as a cheaper alternative was put in when the estate
was built. With more than a years frustration of living with
dialup when running a computer business, it was time for some action. I
heard that recently Yorkey's Knob had success in getting their exchange
enabled after enough residents expressed interest. So with the help of
some information provided by Yorkeys resident & Telstra Account
Executive Mike Moore, I was referred to & enlisted as "local champion"
by the Telstra Regional Manager to assist in getting the number on paper
for expressions of interest.
An expression of interest by 30
or more seperate residences will see the upgrade put on a priority list and may very well be converted for ADSL usage within 3-6 months!
